What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

Ork Neighborhood Posters

I got my Ork Brooklyn neighborhood screen print a while ago and I'm finally taking it in for framing! Here it is:


Do you guys know about Ork Posters? Ork started when 24-year-old Chicago-based graphic designer Jenny Beorkrem started searching for a neighborhood poster that wouldn't cramp her style. From the blog Brooklyn Based...

Beorkrem saw a neighborhood map she knew she could improve upon — so she designed her hometown first (Chicago) using a font (for all you design heads who care about these things) called DIN 1451 that dates back to the 1930s.

“It’s geometric and I think that’s why it fit so well in the posters,” said Beorkrem.

Long-story short, the posters were an instant success, so Jenny quit her day job and started designing them full-time. In addition to Chicago and Brooklyn, other neighborhoods now available include Boston, Manhattan, and San Francisco.

It's so exciting when people find success in doing their own thing, don't you think? I do! So buy an Ork poster and support Jenny (and two non-profits—she donates 2% of sales to River Action and HEAL Africa) today!
