What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

What I Just Read

My rating:

(I need to cry for 5 stars.)

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

Oh my gosh I feel like I'm going to die. I finished decorating the cupcakes and cookies at 2am. Pictures in the morning because I just can't bear to pull out the camera, upload the pics, etc.

Cupcakes Take The Cake

Thank you, Marisol, for sending me the link to the website, Cupcakes Take The Cake.

I actually know two of the the lovely ladies behind it, Rachel Kramer Bussel and Nichelle Stephens (I don't know you, Allison, but you seem really nice!), and I didn't even occur to me to use it as a place to get ideas for Nora's birthday cupcakes.

Click here to watch the ladies on Martha Stewart and when your done, swing on over to Cupcakes Take The Cake and say hello.

Farm Animal Cupcakes

Nora's birthday party is Saturday and I'm in charge of the cupcakes. Since the theme is going be "farm animals," I've been looking on Flickr to get some ideas on how to decorate them. Here are my favorites so far:

Pigs:

Cows:

Mooo cupcakes
Mooo cupcakes (via angelzcup)

Sheep:

Another sheep cupcakes (via momskitchen)

I can't seem to find any decorated like chickens or chicks. (Aside from sticking a Peep on top of it.)

What are some other farm animals?

My Porky Yorkie

Look what arrived today!

I wasn't kidding. I'm working on teaching her how to oink now.

PS - Sometimes I call Beverly my porky Yorkie. Now she really is!

PPS - She needs a smaller size.

Nora's Birthday Party - Part II

My sister is considering having someone bring farm animals to the house for Nora's birthday party.

If she does, I might put Beverly in this...

...teach her how to oink and try to pass her off as one of them. She'd love all the free pets she'd get.

Piggy dog costume available at Trixie + Peanut's costume shop.

Nora's Birthday Party

My sister sent me an email earlier that said, "You could be the entertainment for Nora's birthday party!" (which she's planning right now) and a link to this:

Yes, it's a kit to make balloon animals.

Um.... I don't even know what to say about this.

I mean, does she really think I'd be interested in making balloon animals for a three-year-old's birthday party? I mean, maybe if I were drunk it wouldn't be so bad... but a grown woman smelling of liquor and dressed as a clown probably wouldn't go over too well with the other parents.

OMG, she didn't even say anything about dressing as a clown. Now I'm worried that, somewhere deep in the corners of my mind, I might be considering doing this, seeing as though I'm thinking of ways to make it better for the kids.

No way, I'm not doing it. I love Nora, but my sister's going to have to hire a professional for this. I'll make the cupcakes. (Something from this cute cupcake book I saw on the Today show.)
