You know what I hate about New Year's Eve? The pressure that you have to do something and, if you don't, you're a loser. I mean, everybody knows that it's an overrated night out and never as fun as one might think. But regardless of that, there's still pressure for you to do something—anything, really... just as long as you don't stay home alone.
So anyway, I'm going to dinner with a friend because I feel as if I should go out (and I haven't seen her in ages anyhow), and after that I'm coming home.
Happy new year!

What I Hate About New Year's Eve
Holy Boot Deal
I mentioned this morning that I was looking for boots. I want tall riding boots.
After looking extensively, I decided on these boots by Corso Como... the Sam.

See how they slant at the top? Aren't they cute? I want them in the cognac color.
So anywho, I decided to get them but did a search to see if anyone else was selling them for less than Zappos... they're $314 there. I found them at PiperLime for $295, and then I came across some boots at Macy's by Corso Como called the Sadie on sale for—wait for it —$145. Yes, they were originally $295, then they were marked down to $206, then they were marked down to $145. To make this even better, I found a coupon code for 20% off (Type "MACYSMOBILE" into the promo code box), so that made them $117.
Here they are:

They're chocolate instead of cognac but I can live with that. They're also a size 8 instead of a 7 and I can live with that. (I always have to buy boots bigger anyway to compensate for socks and because of my *ahem* muscular calves. Perhaps a darker color will be better for me anyhow, considering it won't draw as much attention to my muscular calves.) Other than that, they're pretty much the exact same boots.
So anyway, I'm excited about my new boots and I can't wait to get them. I'll keep you posted as to how they work out.

Hot Air Balloons

I love hot air balloons. When I was a little girl, we would chase them in my aunt's car. Well, she would drive, but my sister, cousins and I would tell her where to go. "It went that way!"
I found this picture on MSNBC's PhotoBlog.

Good Workout Music
I've recently started working my fat ass out. I need to get in shape. So anywho, I downloaded this song from iTunes a while ago (it was one of those free Starbucks songs) and it's good to work out to. It's called "Mr. Hurricane" and it's by Beast. You can listen to it on their MySpace page or here:
It kind of sounds like Maroon 5, doesn't it?
I also like this song by them called "Microcyte":
A few more good workout songs:
- "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked" by Ida Maria
- "I'm Me" by Lil Wayne
- Chaka-freakin'-Kahn
And for the record, some bad workout songs:
- "I Honestly Love You" by Olivia Newton John
- "Still" by Lionel Richie
- Anything by Enya

Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven
Le Circue: A Table in Heaven premieres tonight on HBO at 8pm.
The LA Times calls it "A lovely little film... a charming family drama."
The New York Times says it's "full of delightful moments."
New York Newsday says it's "A sensitive profile of a restaurant titan whose time is passing... See 'The Godfather' played out in a swanky Manhattan restaurant."
The New York Observer says, "Everyone who sits at this table will leave, charmed and satisfied."
The Baltimore Sun says, "Give HBO four stars for its classy, spicy and very satisfying documentary about the once legendary New York eatery."
The New York Daily News says, "This documentary never quite becomes the Le Cirque of cinema," and only gives it two stars out of five, so f*ck them.
About the documentary...
Since 1974, Le Cirque has been one of the world's most celebrated restaurants, entertaining dignitaries, artists, celebrities and New York's social elite. An intriguing behind-the-scenes look at the ups and downs of the iconic restaurant, LE CIRQUE: A TABLE IN HEAVEN follows owner Sirio Maccioni and his three sons from the shuttering of Le Cirque at the Palace Hotel following a 2004 New Year's Eve bash, through preparations for the eatery's celebrated rebirth in New York's Bloomberg Tower two years later.
Capturing family members in their most revealing moments, the documentary explores the challenges of reinventing the legendary restaurant, the conflicts between the two generations of Maccionis and the enduring allure of gourmet simplicity.
Among the boldface names seen dining at the restaurant are Cindy Adams, Tony Bennett, Robert De Niro, Rudolph Giuliani, Billy Joel, Henry Kissinger, Regis Philbin, Nancy Reagan, Liz Smith, Martha Stewart, Donald Trump and Vera Wang.
LE CIRQUE: A TABLE IN HEAVEN takes its title from a conversation between Sirio and the Pope, who asked if he needed to call three months in advance for a reservation. Replying, "Come anytime, you don't even have to call," Sirio went on to ask the Pontiff, "What about making [me] a reservation for a table in heaven?"
My friend Charlie produced and edited the film and, as I've previously mentioned, I invested in it. It's a great story of the generational struggle between fathers and sons and their dedication to keeping Le Cirque relevant in the changing face of the New York City restaurant scene.
Visit the film's website.

Anna Faris Q&A On The NY Post Blog
There's a Q&A with Anna Faris on the NY Post's Blog "PopWrap" today.
She talks about "20 Times a Lady" at the bottom:
Anna: I was reading the first page of the script for my new movie and I kept thinking, "I don't know how to act!" [laughs]
PW: You're talking about "20 Times A Lady," right?
Anna: Yea, it's such a funny movie, about a single woman who's life is a bit of a mess - she's slept with a bunch of people, her younger sister's getting married, she loses her job and can't get it together. Then she realizes that in every relationship she's been untrue to herself and conformed for the guy, so she doesn't even know what she wants.
PW: I know that the title refers to the number of sexual partners someone has - what's your opinion on that, does the number matter?
Anna: I don't think it should matter. I guess to some people not being in a committed relationship can be unhealthy, but for other people it's normal. I have three friends who can't stay in a relationship for longer than one week and they're fine. I mean, they're crazy but we're all crazy! So I think to each their own and I grew up in a pretty conservative family so they'd be appalled to hear me say that.
Yay! BTW, The House Bunny is now available on DVD. What a great Christmas gift it would make!

Nora Loves "Full Sexy Dance"
Yesterday my sister called and said she can't stop watching "Full Sexy Dance." She said she thinks it's hilarious and keeps putting it on and laughing hysterically.
So anywho, during the umpteenth time of watching it, Nora apparently walked up to her and asked her what was so funny. While my sister searched for something to say, she glanced down at the computer, saw Jill Blumberg getting her "full sexy dance" on, and goes, "Mommy, what's she doing?"
My sister didn't want to say "dancing," because heaven forbid Nora start humping the floor the next time a good song comes on. So she just said, "I'm not sure," and hoped to leave it at that. As she started to close the laptop, Nora stopped her and goes, "Mommy, she's so cute! Just look at her!"
So anyway, cut to today. Nora walked up to my sister this morning asked her if they could watch "the lady dancing... the one with the pretty high heels." She said she liked the way she dances, did a little demo for my sister, and then spanked herself.
My sister said she couldn't find the video.

The 2008 Black List
Yay! 20 Times a Lady made The 2008 Black List!
From /Film...
Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven’t heard of yet.
Started two years ago by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite new unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. The underground list was e-mailed around and quickly became a Hollywood phenomenon. To give you an idea, the top three entries of the 2005 list where Things We Lost in the Fire, Juno, and Lars and the Real Girl. However it should be noted that a warning appears at the beginning of the list:“THE BLACK LIST is not a “best of” list. It is, at best, a “most liked” list.”
(Take that, haters.)
UPDATE: Lots of press!

How To Talk To Girls
This is sooo cute...
Via HuffPo... How To Talk To Girls" Book To Be Adapted Into Movie For Fox
Twentieth Century Fox has purchased the options to nine-year-old Alec Greven's book, "How to Talk To Girls." THR's Borys Kit reports that the studio will adapt the book, which was published by News Corp. cousin Harper Collins, into a movie:
Fox is ready to take advice from a 9-year-old.
The studio has acquired the film rights to "How to Talk to Girls," a cute 46-page self-help tome written by Alex [sic] Greven, a 9-year-old in the fourth grade.
Greven, who attends school in Castle Rock, Colorado, wrote "Girls" as a handwritten, $3 pamphlet sold at his school book fair; he wrote it after he noticed his peers were having some trouble talking to the ladies, though the book is geared for all ages. Among this advice: Comb your hair and don't wear sweats; control your hyperness and cut down on sugar if necessary; a crush is like a love disease that can drive you mad; it is easy to spot pretty girls because they have big earrings, fancy dresses and all the jewelry but are like cars that need a lot of oil.
Here he is on Ellen a few months ago:
Craig Ferguson
I'm watching Craig Ferguson. His mother died at the beginning of the month and he dedicated tonight's show to her. At the end, he read a poem that he read at her funeral. It's so sad, but so nice.
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come to
mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
"There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side.
She is just as able to bear her load
of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not her.
And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"There, she is gone!"
there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

My Camera
Everyone keeps asking about my camera, so I'm going to tell you about it.
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT, which is a digital SLR camera (as opposed to a point and shoot.) As far as digital SLRs go, this camera is as entry-level as they come. If you've never owned an SLR camera before and are thinking about getting one, the Digital Rebel is great one to begin with.
The least expensive Digital Rebel is the Canon Digital Rebel XS. You can get it in a kit (meaning it comes with an 18-55mm starter lens) for $460 at Amazon.
The next step up is the Canon Digital Rebel XSi, which retails for $640 at Amazon. (It also comes with a lens.)
After that, there's the 40D, which retails for $840 (body only) at Amazon, and then the 50D, which retails for $1,100 (body only) at Amazon. They go up from there...
When it comes to taking good pictures, the camera lens is more important than the body. So again, if you're new to photography, you'll be fine using a Digital Rebel and the kit lens for a while. As time goes on, however, you'll probably want to upgrade if you like taking pictures as much as I do.
The first lens I bought was the Canon EF-S 10-22mm, a wide-angle zoom lens. It takes amazing pictures. Also, it a higher-quality glass than the kit lens, so everything turns out really sharp. Some of my examples:
The second lens I bought was the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, a really inexpensive portrait lens that everyone with a Canon should have. I took the picture of me holding the camera above with it, as well as these:
I also took the hotties on the subway and Nora making beignets with it.
So that's really all I have—a basic SLR camera and a couple additional lenses. The next thing I will probably do is upgrade my camera body to a 40D or 50D. My lenses will work on those as well. (Something that's worth paying attention to when you're buying a lens.)
Before I go, look at this cool thing I recently did my 50mm lens:
Directions on how to do it can be found here.

I ♥ Anna Faris
Yay! I've been so excited about this but was waiting to say something until it was announced... Anna Faris is attached to star in the movie adaptation of 20 Times a Lady! Columbia Pictures is set to produce.
From Reuters/Hollywood Reporter...
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Capitalizing on her "House Bunny" hit, Anna Faris has set up two romantic comedy projects.Paramount has picked up an untitled pitch about two estranged sisters who team up to land a husband. Faris would both star and serve as an executive producer.
Additionally, Columbia has acquired "20 Times a Lady" as a starring vehicle for Faris. The project, based on a book by Karyn Bosnak, centers on a woman who goes on a trek through her sexual past in an effort to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of a person's sexual quota and whether those numbers matter.
I love Anna Faris! She's a great actress with amazing comedic timing and she's perfect for the role. Oh, and she's hot, too. I mean, let's be honest... babe's got it going on.
Anywho, the current script was written by Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan and is absolutely hilarious. I wrote a first draft of it, but I had some issues stepping outside of the book and getting an objective look at it, so they bought in these two lovely ladies and it couldn't have turned out better.
So cross your fingers that everything runs smoothly from here on out and rent THE HOUSE BUNNY now!

Holiday Shopping: Food & Fitness
(Yes, they do go together.)
Welcome to my 2008 holiday shopping list made up of shops and stores that are owned and/or operated by the wonderful readers of this blog! (I've added a couple charities to the mix as well!) Check out their goods... buy them as gifts... and support each other in the process! Times are tight, so let's all band together.
WARNING: Some of the stuff you are about to see is WAY cute. Keep reading at your own risk.
Embittermints
LOVE these. Embittermints are breath mints with cheeky expressions like BUZZ OFF, BITE ME, and YO MAMA carved into them. In addition to being sold at a number of stores, they're also sold on the Embittermints website. They're a fun gift (the perfect stocking stuffer) and a great conversation piece. Embittermints... so mean, so minty.
Get The Bean

Get The Bean is an online store that sells coffee, herbal teas, chai teas and more. A portion of the proceeds from sales are donated to various cancer charities, as the founder, Meghan, is a cancer survivor. To learn more, visit Get The Bean's website, blog, or Meghan's blog. And who doesn't love coffee or tea as a Christmas gift?

Bella Fitness Training

Attention Nashville! How would you like a personal trainer to come to your house and work you out? If so, then Stephanie and Bella Fitness Training is for you. Get some friends together for Bridal Boot Camp or attend a Bikini Boot Camp class. Not only are Stephanie's prices incredibly affordable, but she also gives incentives in the form of Bella Bucks if you stick with the program. Personal training sessions or packages would make a great gift for anyone!

Imagin Aerial

Attention New Yorkers! Have you ever wanted to learn aerial acrobatics and be like all those cool people in Cirque Du Soleil? Well, at ImaginAerial you can do just that. They offer lessons in silks acts (think trapeze, but prettier) and you can buy your friends and family gift certificates. I'm told anyone with a reasonable level of fitness can do it (you don't have to be Super Woman. Hell, you don't even have to be able to do a pull-up!), and I'm totally doing it after the new year.
