What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

What I Just Read

My rating:

(I need to cry for 5 stars.)

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

Good WGA Videos

Writers of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report put the following videos on YouTube. They're very funny.

This video breaks down what the WGA is fighing for:

And these two video show how CEOs contradict themselves when it comes to studios making money from new media:

I'm Home!

I'm done with my shift. You do shifts when you picket; I had 9-1 today.

Okay, I need to share a story with you. So I met tons of people today—tons. I mentioned earlier that I befriended the Daddy Day Care guy; he was walking behind me. We had just passed a bunch of cameras, so I turned around to tell him something, only another guy had jumped in between us. I stopped what I was saying when I saw him and said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else—I was just about to say something really inappropriate." He said, "Well, what better time to stand next to you then." He then he waited for me to proceed, so I did because, you know, I HAVE NO INTERNAL FILTER, so I looked at him and said, "I just adjusted my cleavage for the cameras."

Turns out he's the head writer for The Daily Show. Fabulous.

He found it amusing though, so all's good.

OMG...

Pat O'Brien is here. Is it weird that, of all the people, he's the one that excites me most? (Mostly in a campy way.)

Update From The Trenches

Ooh! John Leguizamo is right in front of me! I loved Moulin Rouge!

And Tony Gilroy is here. He wrote all the Bourne Identity movies and wrote and directed the great Michael Clayton. I went to a screening of it a few weeks ago and there was a Q & A with him afterwards and he's just so charming! And the movie is amazing, you must see it!

Ooh! And Peter Hedges, writer of About A Boy, Pieces Of April, Gilbert Grape, and Dan In Real Life. I love him! I love him! I have a crush on him...

And my new best friend is Geoff Rodkey, the guy who wrote Daddy Day Care.

I Am Forrest Gump

You know how Forrest kept mindlessly stumbling into situations that were bigger than himself? That's me today.

I am Forrest Gump.

I'm Here!

Okay, so I know absolutely no one here, but it's okay. I walk up and get my sign, turn around and start talking to the first people I see. They're the writers for the David Letterman show. Some news people take our picture. I smile pretty but look clueless in every one of them. Then Tina Fey comes up and joins the group. She's pretty. Then some lady from Reuters comes up and interviews me. I tell her I'm a new screenwriter and I'm here to support my union. I hope I make her article. Oh my... Seth Meyers is behind me. Picketing is fun.

Writers Guild Strike

I'm off to join the picket lines and support the union I'm a proud member of: The Writers Guild of America East. We want our four cents! (Among other things...)

I'm bringing my camera, so check back later for pictures. In the meantime, there are several great articles written about the strike that will help break it down for you. Among them...
