What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

Celebrity Sighting: Don Imus

Don Imus, radio talk show host child exploiter, at Eisler Chemist on Lexington & 79th. It's a very small place and I was there buying nail polish (Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, because I do my own nails still - go, Save Karyn, go) and he was there getting something or other. He was wearing his signature cowboy hat, joking with the staff. He's one of those very recognizable people - you immediately know who he is when you see him.

I just did a lil' research and found out that he founded The Imus Cattle Ranch in Ribera, New Mexico, a working cattle ranch that gives kids with cancer, serious blood disorders, and children who've lost brothers and sisters to SIDS the chance to be a cowboy. Isn't that neat? So if you see Imus Ranch Foods for sale you should buy them because 100% of the profits go to the ranch. Here's a list of stores that carry them.

I know, I know... it's exciting posts like this that keep you coming back to pretty in the city.

UPDATE: My friend Soapy T. tells me he's bad...

"do not support the imus cancer ranch. do a little more research and you see that he has been reported to not spend money on the ranch and beats the cancer kids using them as mules and farm hands to tend to his ranch. he supports using cancer kids as indentured servants.

DO NOT SUPPORT DON IMUS!!!!!"
So I take it back - don't buy his products!
