What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

Okay, Fine

I'm going to get rid of the rainbow. I'm not happy about it, though. But here's the thing... I'm going to keep it up for the rest of the weekend so we can all admire its beauty.

Also, I mentioned this in the other post, but I'd like to officially go on the record and say that I'm not happy about the gays hijacking the rainbow. I mean, what have you left the children with? (And grown women like me who have abnormal attachments to it?) Stars? Hearts? Smiley faces? We would've been happy to part with the smiley face; no one really wants that. You could've put that on your flag. Or the unicorn... no one wants that either. (But maybe that's a little too phallic-looking.) But no, you took the much-beloved rainbow.

Anywho, in other news (but also kind of related to this), I was stopped in the street today by the Human Rights Campaign and asked if I had a moment for gays rights. I, of course, said yes, and learned that it's still legal some states to fire someone based on their sexuality.




I'm now making a monthly contribution to the HRC to help fight this discrimination. I'm such a sucker... but you know, I'm also a good person. Because even though you stole the rainbow right out from underneath my feet, I still love you, gay people. May we all be treated equally one day.

PS - I'm going to take numerous people's fabulous advice and add Beverly and Elvis to the banner.
