What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

What I Just Read

My rating:

(I need to cry for 5 stars.)

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

Simon Cowell

So, let me get this straight... Simon Cowell gave his girlfriend Terri Seymour a 9 million dollar parting gift when they broke up? Seriously?

All I got from my ex was a pat on the ass and cab fare home.

It's just not fair.

Obama Babies

Obama Baby (n)

A child conceived through celebration sex after Obama was proclaimed President. Those election night parties led to lots of sex, and presumably lots of babies, too.

I did some math:

If fertilization occurred on November 4, 2008, these babies should be born on or around July 28, 2009. (Since gestation lasts about 38 weeks.)

So, if someone you know announces they are having a baby at the end of January (approximately three months from now), then they could be having an Obama baby.

What Do You Do?

I know some people who read this blog have written books, own stores, make jewelry, etc. I want to highlight some readers and help promote your businesses, books, etc. —especially with the holidays coming up. So, what do you do?

Prop 8

My friend David sent me these pictures today.

Bye Bye Triborough

The Triborough Bridge is being renamed the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. The signs are in the process of being changed right now. Unlike street re-namings, all references to the name "Triborough" will disappear completely.

This name change is the real deal," said MTA chief Elliot Sander.

The "RFK" moniker isn't going to be like Avenue of the Americas - Sixth Ave. to New Yorkers - or the Joe DiMaggio Highway, still better known as the West Side Highway, Sander said

"In many instances, a street has a name change but it keeps the old street name," said Kerry Kennedy, daughter of the slain New York senator and former attorney general. "This will no longer have Triborough attached to it. It will just be the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. That will make a big difference."

The Triborough Bridge connects the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan. (If you aren't from New York, it's the bridge that you frequently take to and from LaGuardia.)

PS - The pic above from taken from the NY Times City Room Blog. It shows construction of the bridge in 1935. Isn't it neat?

Palin's Pooch

I saw this picture on Sarah Palin's Huffington Post page and thought, "I didn't know she had a Bischon!"

But then I looked closer and realized she's not holding a dog but a baby in a woolen onesie.

PLEASE NOTE: I realize she's holding Trig, her son with down syndrome. I'm not making fun of him and comparing him to a dog. I'm making fun of myself and my own mistake in thinking the woolen onesie was a dog. I don't want any hateful comments. I'd never make fun of a mentally-challenged baby or child.

Chace Crawford

So I'm just going to say it: Chace Crawford from Gossip Girl is one sexy b*tch.

I know he plays a high school boy on TV, but he's 23 in real life so it's okay that I wanna make sweet love to him, right?

I mean, he's like Brad Pitt hot.

Maybe he's in to older women.

Meow.

Kim From The Real Housewives of Atlanta

I cannot handle how dumb this woman is.

Kim from The Real Housewives of Atlanta

I don't even know where to begin.

First, she thinks the word "cat" is spelled k-a-t.

Second, she wants to be a singer but knows nothing about it. While visiting a top-rated vocal coach who's worked with the likes of Usher, Rob Thomas, etc., she's told that she doesn't know what she's doing.

"When you were singing for me and when I was playing the piano, you had a hard time matching the note immediately," the vocal-coach said.

"Where does that come into play when you're singing in a studio?" Kim replied, rudely.

Based on this performance, Kim, I think we know where it comes into play:

Third, she smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, which is just gross.

Fourth, in a recent episode she was sitting in her car—behind the wheel—with a glass of wine in her hand. Did anyone else notice this? Fool. I hope she gets arrested.

And finally, this has nothing to do with her lack of brains but her hair is just terrible.

Just terrible.

Just terrible.

I cannot say it enough.

It's just terrible.

PS - I wrote this list while watching the last episode, episode 5. The four before that could have a list all their own, too.

Palin Didn't Know Africa Was A Continent

Oh. My. Gosh. She was almost a heartbeat away from being president.

From Mark

PS - For the record, Beverly snapped at Nora ONCE a couple years ago. She got in BIG TROUBLE and hasn't done it since.

White House Dog

Now that the election is over, we need to talk about one of the most important things Obama mentioned in his speech last night:

The White House puppy.

Beverly's campaign for the spot is already in full-swing. She knows nothing about it, however, as it's being spear-headed by Elvis. He doesn't care how it happens, he just wants that bitch out of the house.

If Beverly's not selected, what kind of dog do you think they should get? I wonder if they'll get a pound-dog. That would be a very Obama thing to do.

Pulling Levers

This picture of mine from the poll booth...

Recording my vote

...made it to Gowanus Lounge. (A popular local Brooklyn blog.)

The caption?

"It's all in how one pulls the lever, isn't it?"

I consider myself to be an expert lever-puller.

Thanks, Gowanus Lounge!

Prop 8

I can't believe Proposition 8 is passing. It's hateful and discriminatory!

I don't understand how so many people could be against same-sex marriage. It's been legal in California for months now and the sky hasn't fallen. No one has gotten hurt. You aren't protecting anything by supporting a ban on gay marriage. You are promoting hate and divisiveness.
