What I'm Reading Now

Michael lives in my neighborhood. I do not know him but I see him around all the time. This book (his first) was named one of the top 10 best books of 2007 by the NY Times Book Review. He also just won the Impac Dublin Literary Award.

What I Just Read

My rating:

(I need to cry for 5 stars.)

Janelle interviewed me eons ago for Salon.com. She's a sassy lady who's super nice. This is her first novel. It received rave reviews and I loved every minute of it.

I'm Crying

And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world... our stories are singular but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand."

Blessed To Be a Witness

CNN is projecting Barack Obama to be the next president elect!

And here is one of the most beautiful songs ever... "Blessed To Be A Witness" by Ben Harper.

Guitar Hero

I love these Guitar Hero commercials:

They need to make more of them. I actually think an updated one with Tom could be cool. No, scratch that—Suri. That could be funny.

Who else do you think would be good in one?

IM With My Friend Scott

Flowers For You!

I love cheesy spray painted flowers. Seriously. They're very festive.

These are for everyone who voted today. (NOTE: If you didn't vote, you aren't allowed to look at them.)

Flowers

I took this today.

No Stickers

Btw, after I voted this morning I asked a bunch of people where I could get an "I voted" sticker (mostly because I want my free vibrator) and was told they didn't have any.

According to Gothamist, New York has never given them out...

Feeling cheated because you didn't get your "I Voted" sticker? We called up the Board of Elections to check in on this very important situation, and they told us they don't think New York City has ever handed out the little badges of civic duty..."

Now that I think about it, I didn't get one in 2004 or 2000 either. Hmph.

UPDATE: One of my pictures has been added to a story on NowPublic.com, a "participatory news network which mobilizes an army of reporters to cover the events that define our world." Time magazine named NowPublic one of the top 50 websites of 2007.

Pull-Lever Voting Machines

New York is the only state that still uses mechanical pull-lever voting machines.

The process of lever-voting has been around since the 1800s and the current machines have been in use since 1962. This year is the last year they will be used.

I'm going to bring my camera and take pictures of them tomorrow.

Now We're Talking

Forget the coffee, doughnuts, and ice cream... Babeland is giving away free sex toys to people who vote in New York and Seattle! Click here for details.

PS - Thanks, Lesli, for the head's up. (No, pun intended.)

PPS - Laura, if you didn't move to Seattle, you wouldn't be able to get a free Silver Bullet. See? Everything happens for a reason.

Nora Likes Obama

She does, really. Every time she sees his picture on TV, she smiles and shouts, "Obama!" (I'm sure if I told her who McCain was, she'd go, "McCain!" But I didn't.)

Anywho, the local Connecticut Democrats were handing out Obama stickers at the annual Halloween walk downtown and I put one on her.

I love these pictures because when we look at them twenty years from now we'll be reminded of this crazy election.

Btw, after I applied the sticker, her daddy took it off.

He likes Obama, he just said something like, "You will not use my daughter to make a political statement!"

Free Food for Voters

So, let's have a round-up of the free food for voters.

There's free scoops of ice cream from Ben & Jerry's...

Free star-shaped doughnuts from Krisy Kreme...

And free cups of coffee from Starbucks...

Btw, I love the commercial, Starbucks. Very effective. (And I love the song.)

What am I missing? Did anyone hear about anything else?
