Tomorrow morning, my sister, Nora, Jack, and I are going to Florida to meet my mom. She and my step-dad bought a new condo in Naples so we're going to help decorate. My mom already has the basics, but she needs to get everything else like kitchen stuff, etc. I'm packing right now and am running a bit late (I'm going to my sister's house tonight b/c we are leaving super early in the morning) so I'll write a longer update when I'm safely on the train.

I'm Home!
I'm done with my shift. You do shifts when you picket; I had 9-1 today.
Okay, I need to share a story with you. So I met tons of people today—tons. I mentioned earlier that I befriended the Daddy Day Care guy; he was walking behind me. We had just passed a bunch of cameras, so I turned around to tell him something, only another guy had jumped in between us. I stopped what I was saying when I saw him and said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else—I was just about to say something really inappropriate." He said, "Well, what better time to stand next to you then." He then he waited for me to proceed, so I did because, you know, I HAVE NO INTERNAL FILTER, so I looked at him and said, "I just adjusted my cleavage for the cameras."
Turns out he's the head writer for The Daily Show. Fabulous.
He found it amusing though, so all's good.

OMG...
Pat O'Brien is here. Is it weird that, of all the people, he's the one that excites me most? (Mostly in a campy way.)

Update From The Trenches
Ooh! John Leguizamo is right in front of me! I loved Moulin Rouge!
And Tony Gilroy is here. He wrote all the Bourne Identity movies and wrote and directed the great Michael Clayton. I went to a screening of it a few weeks ago and there was a Q & A with him afterwards and he's just so charming! And the movie is amazing, you must see it!
Ooh! And Peter Hedges, writer of About A Boy, Pieces Of April, Gilbert Grape, and Dan In Real Life. I love him! I love him! I have a crush on him...And my new best friend is Geoff Rodkey, the guy who wrote Daddy Day Care.

I Am Forrest Gump
You know how Forrest kept mindlessly stumbling into situations that were bigger than himself? That's me today.

I'm Here!
Okay, so I know absolutely no one here, but it's okay. I walk up and get my sign, turn around and start talking to the first people I see. They're the writers for the David Letterman show. Some news people take our picture. I smile pretty but look clueless in every one of them. Then Tina Fey comes up and joins the group. She's pretty. Then some lady from Reuters comes up and interviews me. I tell her I'm a new screenwriter and I'm here to support my union. I hope I make her article. Oh my... Seth Meyers is behind me. Picketing is fun.

Writers Guild Strike
I'm off to join the picket lines and support the union I'm a proud member of: The Writers Guild of America East. We want our four cents! (Among other things...)
I'm bringing my camera, so check back later for pictures. In the meantime, there are several great articles written about the strike that will help break it down for you. Among them...
John August
Daily Kos
...and, of course, check out The Huffington Post.

The Oracle Of Starbucks
This is fun... type in the drink you usually order at Starbucks and find out a little about yourself.
Based on my drink, an Iced Venti Americano, here's my assesment:
Personality type: Asshat
You carry around philosophy books you haven't read and wear trendy wire-rimmed glasses even though you have perfect vision. You've probably added an accent to your name or changed the pronunciation to seem sophisticated. You hang out in coffee shops because you don't have a job because you got your degree in French Poetry. People who drink iced venti americano are notorious for spouting off angry, liberal opinions about issues they don't understand.
Also drinks: Any drink with a foreign name
Can also be found at: The other, locally owned coffee shop you claim to like better.
Intelligence Test
I got 13 of these right. #2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 32. I feel like I know the first half of #28 and 33.

NYC Bathrooms
There's an article in New York magazine this week about the best NYC bathrooms. Among them was the loo at Sapa... and I was just there last week! Here it is...
It was so nice... when I went to use it I wasn't sure if I should pee or meditate.
My friends were actually saying that if someone made a list of the best NYC bathrooms to have sex in, Sapa would be among them. (Yeah, I know... sex in a public bathroom is gross, but it happens.)
Anyway, if you come to NYC, visit (the loo at) Sapa!
Pretty In Pink
I bought this cute hoodie for my nephew Jack today at Brooklyn Industries.
When I told my sister that it had pink lettering on it, she was like, "Pink?"
It doesn't look girly, does it? I mean, sure... pink's traditionally a feminine color, but a lot of men wear it today. Case in point, Ashton Kutcher in a pretty pink suit...
He's all dude in that thing... and that's a whole lotta pink.
And there's nothing girly about the guy from "The Office" in this pic...
Jim's looking good fo sho.
And how can I leave out the leading men in Bollywood as seen in this FABULOUS YouTube video...
India (and Aerosmith) knows what's up. Pink's not just for the ladies anymore.
(Poor Jack... Next week I'll have him I lavender booties.)

My Friend Laura
Please meet my friend Laura. Laura and I went to high school together and also worked in Chicago together. I had dinner with her and her husband Tom while I was in LA but never posted about it because I looked like butt in all the pictures and I'm vain. Anyway, here she is with her husband, Tom:
Could they be a cuter couple?
I went through my photo album and found this picture of us back in the day.
(I'd prefer if you didn't leave comments about my TALL bangs and bushy eyebrows even though both are quite impressive.)
Laura has a dog named Wrigley and a cat named Chumley—both of whom have the hots for Beverly. Wrigley does a pretty good job of keeping his amorous feelings at bay, but Chumley's out of control. He calls Bev at all hours of the night and sends her dirty emails... it's crazy. I wouldn't worry much if Chumley were a normal cat, but he's not—he's psycho. In fact, he and Laura are going to be on the premiere episode of a new Animal Planet show called "Cat Calls" because he's so crazy. Here's a link to the promo for it.
Anyway, please stop by Laura's blog, Live Happy, and say hello to her.

Ryan Adams Halloweenhead Concert
Hello everyone! I'm alive after the Ryan Adams concert last night. I had sooo much fun. So funny... I'm such a light-weight. I had three drinks over a period of three hours and I was a mess. Well, not really a mess, but I was happily buzzed, let's just say that. Gosh, remember the days in college when you could drink three times that amount and get up and go to class the next day? Changes as you get older...
Anyway, not that any of my regular readers care, but a lot of people have been stumbling across my blog today while searching for reviews of the show last night, so here are my thoughts on it:
Vocally-speaking, I thought Ryan performed the best I've ever seen him perform. He had such control over his voice, way more than I think he's ever had. Also, I've always thought he sounded a little bit like Neil Young, but last night the similarity was almost eerie.
As for The Cardinals, they played really tight last night. (I totally felt like a guy when I typed that... so something a guy would say.) They were so in-sync with one another and sounded great.
The show in general, though, was a little too mellow for my liking. The set consisted of a lot of ballady tunes, and Ryan and the Cards kept going into all these lengthy jams... it reminded me of a Dead show. While a mellow show isn't necessarily bad, I think the crowd last night wanted something a little more upbeat. It was Halloween, after all, and it was a New York show. (I'm not saying he brings it more for New York as opposed to other places, but it is his home base.)
Anyway, my favorite song of the evening was "I See Monsters," which was the last song of the second set. He rocked the end of it in a big way. If he had gone out on this, I would've been the happiest camper alive, but he came back for a snoozer encore of three mellow songs.
All in all, though, I still loved the show. But then again, Ryan Adams could've burped out all his songs and I'd probably still be pretty happy... I just love him that much. It amazes me he isn't more popular than he is. He's such a talent, both as a performer and a songwriter.
To all my regular readers who don't listen to him, he's going to be on David Letterman tonight, so check him out!
